What is Business Process and
Business Process Management (BPM)?
Business Process is an activity
or set of activities that will accomplish a specific organizational goal.
Business Process Management is a systematic approach to improving those
processes.
And BPM is a discipline invovling
any combination of modeling, automation, execution, control, measurement and
optimization of business activity flows, in support of enterprise goals,
spanning systems, employees, customers and partners within and beyond the
enterprise boundaries. BPM is not about automating business process (in the
“paving the cowpaths” meaning) but about improving them. The same way that
“reengineering” a process is about not simply automating what is currently
there.
On the other hands, BP needs BPM
which is best thought of as a business practice, ecompassing techiques and
structured methods.
Additional BPM specific acronyms
include BPMP (Business Process Management Platform), BPMS (Business Process
Management Suite), iBPMS ( Intelligent Business Process Management Suite).
The basic BPMP is a set of tools.
An example of this type of application would be
iWorkflow.
The BPMS lays a foundation for
business and IT to collaborate throughout the design and execution of process. iBPMS is at the apex application
of the process world. K2 meets all these needs: See K2 Workflow and BPM.
inFORM Decisions carries both
products, and can help any type of organization carve out their process
